How to fix Horizon Forbidden West flickering on PC
If a simple restart isn’t making the flickering go away, then follow these methods to fix the issue.
Step
Update your GPU drivers
AMD, Nvidia, and Intel release new drivers for their GPUs to make them compatible with the latest games, and in most cases, flickering occurs when you’re trying to play a game on outdated GPU drivers. So, if you haven’t updated them in a while, now would be a good time to do so.
For this, simply go to the official website of AMD, Nvidia, and Intel, select your GPU, and download its latest drivers from there. You can also use the GeForce Experience app or the AMD Radeon Software, depending on your GPU.
Step
Check your HDMI/DP cable
A damaged or fault HDMI/DP cable can also cause different issues in the game, including flickering. So, examine your cable and check for damages. If you notice there are too many bends or cuts on the cable, it might be a good idea to replace it.
Step
Incorrect graphics settings
If you’re trying to run Horizon Forbidden West Remastered on settings which your PC can’t handle, then you’re bound to run into different performance issues. For instance, if you have a GTX 1060 installed in your rig, you can’t expect to run the game with everything set to high at 1440p. So, go to the in-game graphics settings and bring everything down to low. If you notice that the flickering has stopped, it means the settings were the culprit. We also recommend keeping V-Sync off, as this can also help eliminate flickering.
Step
Make sure the components aren’t overheating
Overheating can also cause flickering. This happens when the temperature of your components exceed the safe limits. For this, you can use a tool like HWiNFO to monitor the temps of the CPU and GPU.
If you notice they get too high while playing Horizon Forbidden West Remastered, shut down your PC and take the necessary steps to prevent overheating. This includes cleaning your PC and replacing the thermal paste of your CPU and GPU.
