Just like most new PC games, The Last of Us Part 2 also comes with a few problems that are ruining the experience of many players. For some, the game is constantly crashing or stuttering, while others are getting a black screen. And now, some players are facing a new issue – low audio. Because of this, many are unable to hear the in-game sounds properly, making it difficult to play the game.

Thankfully, while the issue is extremely frustrating, there are a few simple methods that can help solve it, and we’ll go over them in this guide. But before moving on to the advanced solutions, make sure to check if there’s an update available for the game, as it might include a fix for the issue.

How to fix low sound issue in The Last of Us Part 2 on PC

Here are some methods you can follow to make the audio better in the game.

Change the Texture Quality

This might sound strange, but changing the Texture Quality setting can help fix the low audio issue. Normally, this setting only affects the game's graphics. But right now, there seems to be a bug in the game that links it with audio. One player said they were able to fix both the low audio and stuttering by changing the Texture Quality from Very High to High. If you already have it set to High, try changing it to Medium instead through the in-game settings.

Change the Audio Mode

Another way to fix the low audio issue in The Last of Us Part 2 on PC is by changing the audio mode. We understand that Spatial Audio provides a 3D sound experience and can make everything sound better. But in The Last of Us Part 2, it is causing an issue for some players. In such a case, the only way to fix the problem is by changing the audio mode.

  • Go to the in-game Settings.
  • Choose Audio, then go to Compatibility.
  • Change the Output Mode from Spatial to Traditional.

To do it in Windows:

  • Open Windows Settings.
  • Go to Sound > Device Properties under your Output Device.
  • Turn Spatial Sound off.
Device Properties

Power cycle your PC

In some cases, the issue might not be with the game but with your system. There might be a temporary bug or glitch causing the low audio issue. These bugs and glitches usually disappear after you restart the game. But if they don’t, follow these steps to power cycle your PC:

  • Turn off your PC.
  • Remove the power cables.
  • Wait for about five minutes.
  • Plug everything back in.
  • Turn the PC on and try playing the game now.
