Whether you are a seasoned software developer, a student or just a fan of AI you may have already heard of GitHub’s AI assistant – Copilot. This AI programmer has already been around for a while, but as of this month, it is getting an upgrade. Introducing GitHub Copilot X! Despite, being kept behind closed doors, many are wondering – what is the GitHub Copilot X pricing plan?

Unfortunately, GitHub has not released any details about the specific cost for the new Copilot X.

In a blog post, they revealed that they’re still determining the “best way to provide” the new Copilot to their users. So, until we get an update from the organization, we can only speculate.

We do have all the info covering GitHub’s current Copilot pricing plans, however. Let’s explore what these are below.

GitHub Copilot pricing individual

At the moment, you can purchase either a monthly or yearly Copilot subscription from GitHub’s website. Subscription starts at $10 a month or $100 a year. It gives you access to the AI pair programmer, offering autocomplete-style suggestions while you code.

If you are a business owner, GitHub Copilot starts at $19 per user per month. Alongside the same features as the individual access, you’ll also get organization-wide policy management and VPN Proxy support via self-signed certificates.

You’ll be happy to hear that GitHub offers a free subscription for verified students and teachers. To sign up, simply apply to GitHub Global Campus to gain access to the GitHub Student Developer Pack.

It is unclear, whether or not Copilot X will be free for students. Considering the current offerings GitHub is supplying at the moment, we would definitely hope so.

How do you get Copilot X?

GitHub is only letting a select few get a sneak peek at their new Copilot tool. Apparently, the tech company cannot “guarantee access to each feature” but if you sign up for the waitlist, you’ll at least be in line to test the tools that catch your eye.

If you are looking into more than one feature, you will also need to sign up for each of these separately on their site.

Here’s how to sign up:

  1. Head to the GitHub Next website
  2. Select the copilot feature you would like to preview
  3. Select “Sign up for the waitlist”
  4. Enter your GitHub account details and authorize the “Next Waitlist”
  5. Finally, agree to the GitHub Next Pre-Release License Terms and click “Sign up”

Once you have been granted access, you should expect to receive an email from GitHub.
