Google has been working hard on their artificial intelligence language model, and now the chatbot Google Bard has been announced.

Google Bard runs on AI. In this case, the AI used is based on Google’s LaMDA technology. LaMDA, or Language Model for Dialogue Applications, operates by gathering information from the internet and generating answers to inputted queries which mimic human speech. This means Google Bard can produce essays, poems, scripts and jokes alongside more complicated code or equations.

Google Bard AI operates in a pretty similar way to other conversational chatbots like Chat GPT. However, it is optimised to work with Google’s search engine, which will make for some exciting features. Bard AI will apparently be used to provide answers to queries inputted into Google’s search bar. These will be positioned above the actual pages in search results, meaning users will not have to trawl through sites. This will make finding the answer to questions online even easier.

What is Google Bard?

Google Bard is the AI-powered conversational chatbot powered by Google’s LaMDA technology. It is set to be a competitor to Chat GPT, the popular chatbot developed by OpenAI and backed by Microsoft. The service will use AI technology to generate answers to inputted queries and commands, which will mimic human speech.

LaMDA is a conversational language model which has been under development for a long time. Although the company has been relatively secretive about the AI service and how it works, we’re expecting to see more information emerge in the coming weeks about what Google Bard will look like and how it will operate.

How can I use Bard AI?

Update incoming! On March 21, Google announced that the general public will now have access to Google Bard (in certain regions).

To access the new AI search engine, simply head over to the Bard website and sign up for their waitlist. Once you have been granted access, expect to see the new AI chatbot integrated into your Google search bar.

What are the disadvantages of using chatbots?

There is no doubt about it, AI chatbots are pretty amazing tools. Sadly, as with anything, chatbots have their drawbacks too. One of the biggest disadvantages is accuracy. This was a big topic of discussion last week when Google unleashed a demo video on Twitter.

The video showed Google Bard incorrectly answering a question about the James Webb Space Telescope. This mistake showcases the problems with these tools and their reliability. So, it’s definitely a good idea to keep an eye out for these inaccuracies when using tools like Bard.

Final Thoughts

Google’s Bard service is set to be a major player in the chatbot game. Using the LaMDA technology Google has been working hard on for some time, the Bard AI service could make searching the web a very different experience.

There’s also no doubt that the arrival of Google’s AI chatbot signifies a major shift in the tech that internet-led brands will be investing in over the next few years. Expect to see a lot more AI services and discourse on the subject.
