What we like about this LG UltraGear 27GX700A-B OLED gaming monitor
Exceptionally bright fourth-generation OLED panel
At the heart of the monitor is LG’s latest fourth-generation OLED panel measuring 26.5 inches diagonally with a native resolution of 2560×1440. This QHD resolution strikes an excellent balance between image sharpness and gaming performance, requiring significantly less GPU horsepower than 4K while providing noticeably greater detail than Full HD.

One of the most significant improvements over previous UltraGear OLED generations is the adoption of Primary RGB Tandem technology. Rather than relying on earlier OLED panel structures, this newer design substantially increases peak brightness while improving efficiency and helping maintain more consistent luminance across larger portions of the screen.
LG quotes peak brightness of up to 1,500 nits for HDR highlights under appropriate test conditions. While full-screen brightness remains naturally lower – as with all OLED displays – the additional peak brightness dramatically improves HDR performance, allowing explosions, reflections, light sources, and specular highlights to appear far more impactful than on previous OLED generations.
The monitor carries VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification. Unlike traditional LCD displays that rely on local dimming, OLED technology enables every individual pixel to switch completely off when displaying black. This creates effectively infinite contrast, eliminating haloing and blooming while preserving extremely fine shadow detail in dark scenes.
The matte anti-glare coating is another welcome addition. Unlike glossy OLED displays that can produce distracting reflections, the matte finish makes the monitor considerably easier to use in rooms with overhead lighting or windows while still preserving much of OLED’s outstanding image quality.
Ultra-fast 280Hz refresh rate and response time
For gaming, the 280Hz refresh rate is one of the display’s defining strengths. Competitive titles such as Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, Apex Legends, Call of Duty, and Rainbow Six Siege benefit from exceptionally fluid animation, allowing moving targets to remain clearer during rapid camera movement.
The quoted 0.03ms Gray-to-Gray response time further enhances motion clarity by virtually eliminating traditional LCD ghosting and overshoot. Fast-moving objects remain sharply defined even during aggressive camera panning, contributing to improved target tracking and overall responsiveness.
Variable refresh rate support is comprehensive. NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible certification and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro allow the monitor’s refresh rate to synchronise dynamically with the output of compatible graphics cards. This eliminates screen tearing while reducing stutter and input latency across a broad range of frame rates.
Excellent colour accuracy
The panel also performs extremely well for content creation. LG specifies coverage of approximately 99.5% of the DCI-P3 colour space, making it capable of reproducing a wide range of colours required for HDR video production, photography, graphic design, and digital artwork.
UL verification for Perfect Black, Perfect Color, 100% Colour Fidelity, and Perfect Colour Reproduction further reinforces the display’s emphasis on image accuracy. These certifications indicate that colours remain highly accurate regardless of whether users are working in brightly lit environments or darker rooms.
Comprehensive gaming features
Support for both NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro ensures smooth gameplay across virtually every modern graphics card. Combined with HDMI 2.1 connectivity, DTS Headphone audio support, and LG’s Switch software, the monitor offers an excellent overall gaming experience.
