Table of Contents
The Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB is one of the fastest consumer SSDs currently available, delivering exceptional PCIe 5.0 performance alongside industry-leading random access speeds, improved efficiency, and Samsung’s mature software ecosystem. Gaming performance is among the best currently available: installations complete quickly, DirectStorage-compatible titles can benefit from the drive’s enormous bandwidth, and loading screens are reduced to a minimum. Professional users stand to benefit even more: high-bitrate video editing, complex 3D rendering projects, scientific datasets, AI model training, virtual machines, and software compilation all involve storage-intensive operations where the 9100 PRO’s bandwidth and low latency can reduce waiting times and improve overall workflow efficiency. Its combination of extreme throughput, strong thermal management, and excellent reliability makes it an outstanding choice for enthusiasts, gamers, and professional creators building next-generation systems.
The Samsung 9100 PRO represents Samsung’s flagship consumer NVMe SSD, utilising the PCIe 5.0 x4 interface to deliver transfer speeds that were previously only available in enterprise-class storage solutions. Sequential read speeds of up to 14,700MB/s and write speeds of up to 13,400MB/s make it approximately twice as fast as Samsung’s highly regarded 990 PRO under ideal conditions, dramatically reducing the time required for file transfers, installations, and large project workflows. Its exceptionally high random performance is equally important. With up to 1.85 million random read IOPS and 2.6 million random write IOPS, the drive excels in workloads involving thousands of small files, including software development, database operations, virtual machines, AI model loading, and modern operating systems. Applications launch almost instantly, multitasking remains highly responsive, and demanding productivity workflows benefit from noticeably reduced latency.
Security features include AES hardware encryption alongside support for Samsung’s Magician software, allowing users to monitor health statistics, install firmware updates, optimise drive settings, and perform secure erase operations.

What we like about this Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD
Class-leading PCIe 5.0 performance
The Samsung 9100 PRO is built to take full advantage of the PCIe 5.0 x4 interface, delivering sequential read speeds of up to 14,700MB/s and write speeds of up to 13,400MB/s. This represents a substantial leap over previous PCIe 4.0 SSDs, making it one of the fastest consumer NVMe drives currently available for gaming, professional content creation, AI workloads, and high-performance workstations.
Outstanding random performance
Beyond its headline sequential speeds, the 9100 PRO offers exceptional random read and write performance of up to 1,850K and 2,600K IOPS respectively. This significantly improves application responsiveness, operating system performance, project loading, multitasking, and game loading times, particularly when working with thousands of smaller files.
Improved efficiency and thermal management
Samsung has equipped the 9100 PRO with a new 5nm controller that delivers up to 49% greater power efficiency than the previous-generation 990 PRO. Combined with Samsung’s advanced thermal management technologies, the drive is designed to sustain extremely high performance while reducing the likelihood of thermal throttling during prolonged heavy workloads.
Comprehensive software support
Samsung’s Magician software continues to be one of the strongest SSD management suites available. Users can easily update firmware, monitor drive health, optimise performance, enable hardware encryption, and securely erase the drive, making long-term maintenance straightforward.
