April was the last time Samsung’s 990 EV Plus SSD 2TB variant was spotted under $370 at Amazon. It’s incredible, really, but SSD pricing has gone somewhat haywire in 2026. So as we keep an eye out for better days, the current $360 price of the 2TB NVMe offers hints of relief. Amazon says the SSD’s list price is now an eye-watering $580, with the new $360 deal price a 38% discount. While this isn’t anywhere near a bargain, here’s why we’d pick this drive if we needed a 2TB NVMe right now.

Fast, reliable transfer speeds
While the EVO Plus range excels in its performance per watt, the 2TB variant is far from slow. This PCIe Gen 4×4 and Gen 5×2 NVMe SSD is rated up to 7,250MB/s and 6,300MB/s read and write speeds, respectively. For enthusiasts who don’t need professional-level workstation performance, those speeds are ample for everything from encoding to gaming and compiling.
A great, efficient choice for laptops
EVO Plus SSDs are renowned for their power-efficient performance. And so if you’re worried about power draw or heat – or if you need a reliable, fast drive for your laptop (or other device) not always plugged into an outlet – the 2TB EVO Plus should serve you well. Where there’s power efficiency, there are lower temperatures too.

Relatively good value
Nobody’s going to convince us that $360 is cheap for an SSD drive. However, the 2TB capacity EVO Plus offers better value than the 1TB ($240). Plus, the drive is cheaper (and a little slower) than Samsung’s 990 Pro 2TB, which costs $390. So if you want a Samsung SSD and you don’t need top performance, this is a decent, if still inflated, pick.
What to consider before you buy
SSD pricing is high, but the SSD 990 EVO Plus 2TB has dipped to its lowest in five months, which is better than…it not doing that. Whether or not the price continues to drop is impossible to guess. That means it’s up to you whether to buy now if you’ve been tracking this specific model, or whether you hold out a little longer.
