AMD’s Ryzen 5 9600X just refuses to stay put on cost, hits new low price
Table of Contents
If there’s a bright light in current-gen component pricing, it may be the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X. The most affordable 9000 series CPU simply refuses to stay still and, except for a brief rise in early April, has consistently tumbled in recent months.
Now it’s back to its gravity-following best, at a new low price in an Amazon deal. The new lowest tracked price is $214, placing it 23% down on the list price and just $8 more than the Ryzen 7 7600X it succeeds. If you ask us, that’s a pretty convincing price for a first 9000 series part on the Socket AM5 platform.

AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
Why we like the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
The job of an entry-level CPU in any family is to provide an entry point, and (arguably) to help persuade users to skip the prior generation on an existing platform. The consistent price drops of the 9600X make it useful for both, and it’s a solid option for many users, whether for day-to-day or dedicated gaming PC use.
- Future-facing – The 9600X provides a decent entry point for Socket AM5 and a 9000 series, now with an array of options up to the powerful Ryzen 9 9950X3D.
- Solid performer – The 9600X builds on the 7600X, delivering performance improvements for a lower power draw.
- Power-efficient – A 6C 12T (6-Core, 12-Thread) Processor, the 9600X is a 65W part.
- Overclockable – A stock 5.4 GHz max boost clock, but this ‘X' variant CPU can also be overclocked.
- No cooler: The Ryzen 5 9600X doesn’t come with a cooler, so you will need to pick one up.
AMD Ryzen 5 9600X deal for?
As ever, the 9600X is an entry-level CPU for more cost-conscious gaming or productivity PCs. If you’ve been tracking the price of this specific CPU, this new lowest price is the (current) best deal for it, making it a good time to buy for a new system.
Paired with the best GPUs for the 9600X, this CPU can deliver up to 4K gaming and can sit at the core of a slightly more capable and more power-efficient system than the 7600X it was designed to replace. And for $8 more at the deal price, it feels like an easy choice to make.
