Above are the key specs of the Ally X, which show its strong performance capability. Its AMD CPU, designed for mobile performance, gives it an efficient and effective design. It also comes with an RDNA 3 graphics core onboard to render those graphics.
All of that compiles into a 1080p display with a 120Hz refresh rate, providing you with a great experience on the small 7-inch screen, which means you don’t need a higher resolution. It also has a 500-nit brightness touchscreen, even if it’s a bit slow at 7ms.
There is also a good amount of storage, considering it comes with a 1TB NVMe SSD, which is also upgradeable thanks to being a standard M.2 2280 you can access. With a nice IO to utilize for audio and charging, and if you are considering getting the dock, you can have a lot more potential.
Why consider the ROG Ally X
The ROG Ally X is a great way to get a whole PC on the go. Without a custom distro, it just has a simple Windows installation, so you can get all that you have on your computer on a handheld instead. With an improved battery compared to its predecessor, it provides powerful performance that can last a considerable amount.
At this price point, you’ll be able to get a laptop that might be a bit of a better option for some people, although it’s not as handheld and on the go as the Ally X. Plus, Windows 11 might not be for everyone and can get frustrating at this form factor. However, the openness compared to Steam OS might be worth the trouble.
