As far as budget-friendly, high-performance gaming monitors are concerned, the ASUS TUF lineup is up there with the best, and this FHD, 310Hz model is currently at its best price ever on Amazon. It’s down to just $139.00, from close to $200, which is a very accessible price point for something with FreeSync Premium, a 0.03ms response time, and a Fast IPS display.

This is a monitor that’s geared unapologetically towards competitive, high framerate gaming. It’s sized to just 25 inches, which makes its 1080p resolution look surprisingly crisp and clear, but it can also help give you a competitive edge in certain games, like first-person shooters, for instance. The inclusion of FreeSync Premium, over your standard FreeSync, brings with it features like Low Framerate Compensation, which does exactly what it says on the tin, and is excellent when you’re playing with high stakes and don’t want your monitor letting you down.

Picture quality, in terms of color, brightness, and HDR performance, isn’t the main focus here, and that’s pretty much the case no matter how much you spend on a FHD monitor in my experience. That being said, it’s still decent, coming in at 99% sRGB and a 1000:1 contrast ratio, with a DisplayHDR 400 certification. Would it be my top choice for gaming in HDR? No, but games will still look vibrant with relatively deep blacks and bright highlights regardless.

There’s a sprinkling of other gaming features, as expected, which you may or may not use. One that stands out is its Dynamic Shadow Boost, designed to reveal opponents hiding in dark areas of the map. This is pretty common in most monitors, but it could prove useful!

Who is this gaming monitor for?

Competitive gamers who have a decent FHD-gaming PC, or even those who have a high-end PC paired with a 4K monitor, who want a secondary display specifically for high fps, competitive gaming. I think realistically, it’s going to appeal mostly to those who are looking to stick to a budget, but not sacrifice gaming performance where it matters most.

Things to consider before buying

As mentioned, it’s very much geared towards competitive gaming and esports, but if you want something more versatile, I’d simply up the size of the screen to 27 inches. This will give you more space for general productivity, watching movies, and more, and it’s still small enough to preserve pixel density and not put you at a competitive disadvantage in games.
