Lenovo Legion 5i (5070, 14700HX)
What we like about this Lenovo Legion 5i gaming laptop
Its OLED screen is seriously impressive for the price
This display is a significant level up from your typical RTX 5070 laptop screen, as it’s an OLED, which means you’re getting phenomenal contrast and color, with bright highlights, making your games look super lifelike.
It’s also a big win for designers, especially video editors, as it has 100% DCI-P3 color and is X-RIte Pantone Certified, too. For accurate edits on the go, this is a game-changer for creatives.
On top of that, it’s also 165Hz and 2560 x 1600 resolution, making it ideal for playing games at up to 165fps and in crisp 1600p detail.
RTX 5070 mobile is the sweet spot for price and performance
This graphics card packs 8GB of GDDR7 VRAM and offers superior performance to the RTX 5060 mobile, without completely breaking the bank. For 1440p and 1600p gaming, it’s ideal, especially when using DLSS and exclusive features like MFG.
With 4th-gen ray tracing cores and 5th-gen tensor cores, it’s a notable generational improvement, and a solid option for moderately demanding creative workflows, too.
Intel Core i7-14700HX is a powerhouse all-rounder processor
This CPU is a bit of a beast, and it’s a great pick for this type of laptop. Not only does it pack 20 cores and 20 threads, but it’s also got a boost clock speed of 5.5Ghz and a large 33MB L3 cache. In essence, it’s a do-it-all style of CPU, which can just as effectively be used to make short work out of demanding workflows and heavy multitasking, as it can to deliver high fps gaming with low frame latency.
It features the ideal amount of RAM, without being overkill
You’ve got 16GB of DDR5 here, which is pretty much ideal for an RTX 5070 laptop, as it’s going to help enhance gaming performance by reducing microstuttering and allow you to work on creative projects and tasks without everything grinding to a crawl. Any more, and the price would leap up, and at that point, you may as well consider another GPU entirely.
Should you go for this deal?
Lenovo Legion gaming laptops are actually super popular options, and, from my experience writing about them when they go on sale, big price drops like this one gather a lot of attention. While they are often on sale, just like Alienware and Apple, larger discounts are seemingly rarer.
At its current price, this is a big win, as you’re getting something with an OLED screen, RTX 5070 mobile, and a very powerful, versatile processor for significantly less than its list price. At its original price, I’d still say this is worth jumping on, so if you’re interested, now would be a brilliant time to go for it.
