After a lackluster performance from Intel’s latest Arrow Lake lineup, fans of the blue team are seemingly better off going with the Raptor Lake Refresh flagship, the Core i9 14900K, which is currently discounted on Amazon.
Intel Core i9-14900K Desktop Processor
As you might be aware, Intel recently launched its next-gen Core Ultra 200 series. While expectations weren’t high, Team Blue still managed to disappoint. The flagship Core Ultra 9 285K launched at an MSRP of $589, yet despite numerous “improvements,” it turned out to be slower than the last-gen flagship, the Core i9 14900K, which has an MSRP of $462.
The latest chips might be paving the way toward a more efficient and productivity-focused era, but for gamers, the 14900K looks to remain the best option. Currently, the Intel Core i9 14900K is available for $438, offering a generous $24 discount. So if you were planning to upgrade your gaming rig with Intel’s next-gen chip, it’s better to grab this deal, instead.
Is the Intel Core i9 14900K good for gaming?
In the past few weeks, we’ve seen several comparisons between the Core i9 14900K and the Core Ultra 9 285K, and the conclusion has always been the same: the 14900K is better for gaming. While there isn’t a huge night-and-day difference between the two (at least in most games), the 14900K is over $100 cheaper than its competitor. This means that if you’re looking to get a chip solely to fulfill your gaming needs, the 14900K is your best bet. For productivity, you might consider the Core Ultra 9 285K, but it doesn’t offer the significant performance leap you’d expect from a $600 chip.

Is the Core i9 14900K deal worth it?
If you are on a 12th-generation processor, upgrading to Intel Core i9 14900K will feel exciting. However, if you are running a 13th-generation chip, the performance difference won’t be that big. Overall, the Core i9 14900K feels like a “refresh” and will give you a much better upgrade experience than you would see with the current chips we have. And the discounted price tag of $438 makes this a good deal and just $11 more than the lowest price we have seen for this chip.
