The Ryzen 9 9950X is the top-end AMD desktop CPU, so this processor makes sense if you need power from an AMD setup. It’s very capable and offers strong performance in multi-core workloads. It can be overclocked with PBO If you need more power, but there’s plenty here in stock settings.
- Architecture – Using AMD's current-gen AM5 platform, the 9950X is a 16-core 32-thread CPU with 64 MB L3 cache. It is a great option for powerful systems hosting the latest components like the RTX 50-series GPUs.
- Max boost – The CPU has a boost clock speed of 5.7 GHz, with a base clock speed of 4.3 GHz.
- Overclockable – As the 9950X has an ‘X’ on it you can overclock this CPU. Whether or not you’d need to is another question, but doing so will ramp up the heat and bump up its power draw. Sufficient cooling is advisable.
- Cooler – There is no cooler included with this CPU. Additionally, AMD recommends a liquid cooler for maintaining reasonable temperatures.
