Table of Contents
Prime Big Deal Days is here, and it looks like it’s a cracking time to pick up a gaming laptop for less. Right now, this MSI Katana 15 has a significant 19% discount, which has dropped it to $1,791.00. For well under $2000, you’re actually getting something pretty high-spec here, and it’s great value for money.
It’s an RTX 5070 laptop, which means it packs 8GB of GDDR7 VRAM and boasts Blackwell features and improvements, like DLSS with MFG, 4th-gen ray tracing cores, and 5th-gen tensor cores. It’s a solid card for QHD gaming, packing more raw power than the RTX 5060 mobile, which also carries through to its performance in creative apps, too. The CPU is an Intel Core i9-14900HX, which is a powerhouse processor for more than just gaming. It packs 24 cores and 32 threads, which unlocks strong multitasking capabilities, while its large 36MB L3 cache and fast boost clock speed of 5.8GHz lend themselves well to high FPS gaming with low latency.
MSI Katana 15 HX 15.6” 165Hz QHD+ Gaming Laptop
RAM is substantial, too, coming in at 32GB of DDR5. Storage is somewhat modest, at 1TB, but fine for most people. The screen is excellent, as it’s QHD+ resolution with a 165Hz refresh rate, and also boasts 100% DCI-P3 color. It’s essentially a display that’s great for fast-paced gaming, but also a good pick for color-sensitive creative work, like video editing, for example. Elsewhere in the build, you’ve got a 4-zone RGB keyboard, WIFI 6E connectivity, and a robust cooling system for stable performance even under sustained loads.

What we like about this MSI Katana gaming laptop
A competitve price for an RTX 5070 laptop
At just under $1,800, this is actually one of the more affordable RTX 5070 laptops I’ve come across, and ideal if you’re looking for punchier performance than an RTX 5060, but without spending too much extra.
Impressive screen for gaming and creative work
Having 100% DCI-P3 color, QHD+ resolution, and a 165Hz refresh rate ticks all the boxes, and what’s more, it makes sense given this laptop’s capabilities.
Loads of RAM and a high-core count CPU make this a strong productivity pick
It’s primed for heavy multitasking workflows, so if you’re running loads of apps at once or you need something to handle intensive tasks like rendering and exporting, this RAM and CPU configuration is a great way to go.
