Samsung 32″ QHD gaming monitor is a great budget-friendly pick with Amazon deal
Table of Contents
This Samsung 32-inch Odyssey G5 gaming monitor is currently going for a great price on Amazon, coming in at just $199.99. Now, for a large QHD gaming monitor with a pretty high refresh rate, that’s not bad at all. As with more cost-effective monitors, there’s not a whole lot to dive into here, in a good way. This monitor has a large screen that’s designed to give you some extra real-estate to work with and up the immersion when playing certain types of games. At QHD, it’s going to have high enough pixel density to look crisp and clear, but without 4K prices. Text, in-game textures, and more should look decent on this monitor, for sure.

As for panel technology, it’s a Fast IPS. This type of panel gives you wide viewing angles and speedy response times, but generally speaking, the contrast is a little lacking when compared to a VA. For a screen this size, that could easily double up as a main display for productivity, streaming, and more, I’d say it’s better off as an IPS, so you can view it easily from different areas of your room. HDR is pretty basic, but still decent for the price. It’s HDR10-compatible, so it can adjust its settings for HDR content to enhance contrast, brightness, and color, but only in a fixed way rather than dynamically.
Now, for gaming performance, you’ve got a 180Hz refresh rate, which is going to allow you to reach pretty competitive frame rates, and it should be pretty smooth, too, as it also has a 1ms response time and is G-Sync and FreeSync compatible. As usual, there are some extra gaming features, like a virtual aim point and Black Equalizer, which you may or may not use.

Is this monitor right for you?
At its current price, it’s budget-friendly for sure, and I’d say it would be a good and stylish addition to a cost-effective QHD gaming setup that’s also used for productivity and everyday usage. It leans more towards a gaming monitor than a productivity/ professional/ gaming hybrid, so keep that in mind, especially if you’re looking for something for creative work.
Things to consider before buying
QHD at this size looks great, but I’d always recommend going a little smaller to really make the most of the resolution. 27 inches is the sweet spot for QHD, and for around this price, you’d likely get something with slightly better performance across the board, too.
