Samsung’s 990 1TB NVMe gets its lowest price yet in latest Amazon SSD deal
Table of Contents
Samsung’s 990 range of NVMe SSDs only arrived on the market this year. They offer an extra option alongside the hugely popular (and pricey) 990 Pro and 990 Evo Plus lines. And right now, the Samsung 990 1TB is the best value of the lot. So if Samsung is your ideal SSD manufacturer, this offer could be for you. The 990 1TB was first listed on Amazon in July at $270. However, it’s now down to $190, a sizable difference considering that the 990 Pro (1TB) is $260 and the 990 Evo Plus (1TB) is $240.
Why we’d pick the Samsung Internal SSD 990 1TB
A reliable Samsung SSD
Samsung’s SSDs have an air of reliable performance about them. The SSD 990 1TB is no different, because it’s not…particularly different. It uses Samsung V-NAND 3-TLC memory, and the same in-house controller as the Pro and Evo Plus lines. And, like its Evo Plus 1TB sibling, the 990 1TB is DRAM-less.
Good all-around speed
The 990 1TB is rated for 7,150 and 6,450 MB/s sequential read and write speeds (respectively). It’s also rated for up to 700K and 1,100K IOPS random read/write speeds. This makes the drive more than a match for many modern PC needs – specifically in random access, where performance is reportedly more sustained.

Relatively good price
If you’re looking for a PCIe Gen 4 1TB SSD and you want a name you can trust, then the 990 1TB is priced relatively well right now. Some alternatives are more affordable (Kingston’s NV3 1TB is the most obvious), but Samsung’s established standing and this new lower cost present decent value in a price-hiked part of the PC market.
What to consider before you buy
Unlike the 990 Pro and 990 Evo Plus, the 990 Pro 1TB is not a hybrid PCIe Gen 4 and Gen 5 NVMe SSD. It is purely PCIe Gen 4, which accounts for some of its lower cost. Perhaps more importantly, if you’re looking for an SSD for large file transfers, it may be worth spending more on the 990 Pro or (if you have the flexibility) another alternative. The 990 1TB is fine, but not stellar in this regard. In fact, the best NVMe SSDs could be for you if you need constant heavy-workload performance.
