Prime Day may be a somewhat distant memory, but there are still some gaming monitors that have retained their Prime Day pricing that I think are well worth checking out before they snap back up to full price again. Case in point, one of Samsung’s most popular QD-OLED monitors, the Odyssey G5, is still sitting at its record-low price on Amazon with a hefty 23% discount.

For $339.95, you’re getting a monitor with outstanding QD-OLED picture quality, QHD resolution, a 180Hz refresh rate, and great-looking aesthetics, as expected from Samsung. Now, this isn’t an absolute S-tier QD-OLED gaming monitor, but it’s a very strong pick for mid-range QHD gaming builds. I’d say it’s more for those who lean into slower-paced, cinematic AAA games at high settings than, say, someone who wants ultra-high frame rates or the absolute pinnacle of HDR performance. The best way to see this is like a budget-friendly QD-OLED gaming monitor that does the basics very well, without being overkill or overly expensive for most people’s gaming rigs.

What we like about this Samsung 27-inch Odyssey OLED G5 monitor

QD-OLED is great for showcasing AAA games at their best

This monitor’s display technology allows for much deeper blacks, bright highlights, and more accurate, true-to-life color, which ultimately makes everything look more realistic. For gaming at high to ultra settings, it’s ideal as it helps make everything look way more atmospheric and lifelike, especially in lower-light environments.

Its refresh is high, but not overkill for most people

At 180Hz, in all honesty, it’s quite hard to tell the difference between 240Hz if you’re a typical gamer. For serious competitive gaming, sure, it’s important, but if you’re looking for something that’s going to make onscreen motion look incredibly smooth and doesn’t break the bank, then this is a great way to go.

Glare free coating makes it way more practical

No need to tuck this away in a dark corner or use it exclusively at night, as this coating helps reduce reflections and glare while preserving picture quality, clarity, and visibility.

Thermal Modulation System reduces burn-in risk

This monitor uses advanced algorithms that can predict burn-in threats and adjust settings accordingly to prevent any issues. It’s even got a 3-year warranty for peace of mind.

Is this gaming monitor good value for money?

I’d say so, yes, but it does scale back in some areas to remain affordable that you may or may not miss. For instance, it doesn’t have a high-level of FreeSync, ‘only’ supports HDR10, which is a basic level of HDR, and its refresh rate is on the lower side. For the price, it’s pretty amazing, and I’d say it’s actually one of the most affordable QD-OLED monitors out there, but for around $400 you could level up quite dramatically, wth the trade-off being that it won’t be nearly as sleek in terms of design as this Samsung monitor.
