The HP HyperX Omen is a brilliant gaming laptop that strikes a great balance between performance and value. With a discounted price tag of $1,699.99, it offers the combination of the Ryzen 9 8940HX, a heavy-hitting processor, and the RTX 5060, which is great for 1080p and 1440p gaming. It also adds 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB SSD, but one of the standout features is the Unleashed Mode, which allows for a full power release, enabling the components to handle resource-heavy workflows.
The 16″ display also deserves some attention, as it has a 2.5K resolution, a 165Hz refresh rate, a 0.2ms response time, and 100% DCI-P3 coverage, but the fact that it is an OLED display takes this entire package to the next level. This means deep blacks, bright highlights, and outstanding picture quality. It also sports self-cleaning fans, meaning the dust buildup won’t impact the RPM or airflow, keeping it running cool.

165Hz OLED display
Featuring a 165Hz refresh rate and a 0.2ms response time, it is suitable for immersive single-player games as well as competitive gaming. Each OLED pixel lights up individually, resulting in deep blacks and strong contrast that improve detail and cinematic quality in dark scenes. The high refresh rate ensures smooth movement and camera transitions, while the quick response time helps minimize ghosting. The screen covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, making it useful for photo editing, video production, and HDR entertainment. The 16:10 aspect ratio brings more vertical space for timelines, documents, and multitasking compared to a standard 16:9 display.
WiFi 7
Wireless connectivity is amazing, as Wi-Fi 7 can provide higher throughput, lower latency, and better congestion management. It should be very helpful for streaming or downloading large games, or if you want to play online without a full Ethernet cable laid across your room. Still, the actual Wi-Fi 7 speeds will depend heavily on your internet connection, as well as how far away your machine is from your router and its other traffic. Wi-Fi 7 won’t necessarily lower the ping you experience in every game, so if you need the most consistent connection, a wired Ethernet is the way to go.
