What you need to know about the Samsung 55-inch Odyssey Ark

So we’ve had one of these in the office for a while now, and a colleague of mine uses it, so I’m very familiar with the sheer size of this beast. It’s massive, but the screen real-estate is incredible. It gives you enough room for four full size windows, so it’s essentially like having four monitors. With this version, you can even have four different inputs and have them displayed in four windows. The applications of that are endless, whether that’s gaming, streaming, designing, and more.

The screen itself is Quantum Mini-LED, which means that its highly precise and has excellent color. Its also 165hz to allow for higher fps gaming, and has AMD FreeSync Premium Pro to reduce screen tearing.

What’s interesting here is that you can actually rotate this massive screen. This gives you an entirely new experience, or Cockpit mode, that can be put to great use with gaming and other activities. Needless to say it’s incredibly immersive.

It also features sound dome technology to up the immersion even further. This comes from four corner speakers and two woofers in an impressive 60W 2.2.2 channel. That’s pretty punch for a monitor, which are typically quite lacklustre when it comes to audio.

This monitor made waves when it released a couple years back, and it’s still something which many will see as complete overkill. Personally, I think if you’ve got the space for something truly epic, then it’s a pretty amazing monitor for a gaming setup.
