The Asus ROG XG27ACS is a popular 1440p monitor for midrange gamers, and it’s no surprise. The 180Hz screen is plenty quick enough for fast-action gaming, and the device includes the key features you’d want in a modern monitor. Thankfully, it’s also cheaper than it has been. Earlier this month it was spotted at $260, well above its list price, but the XG27ACS is now down to $200, for a handy $30 saving.

Why we’d pick the Asus ROG XG27ACS

Speedy 180Hz

As a first gaming monitor, or a first 1440p monitor, the 180Hz refresh rate is a strong pick. It supports up to 180 frames per second for smooth, speedy gameplay, which is enough for entry-level and (most) midrange systems. That’s backed by a rapid 1ms response time for a highly responsive experience with minimal input lag.

HDR appeal

As a standard 27-inch 1440p monitor, you already get good detail on an easily viewable screen. However, the ROG XG27ACS supports HDR content and is a DisplayHDR 400 device, so you’ll get a solid minimal peak brightness of 400cd/m2 (nits). Plus, this monitor has a boosted 133% sRGB color coverage, for greater visual appeal.

Console-friendly

If your monitor needs to double as a gaming screen for your PS5 or Xbox, the XG27ACS supports VRR (variable refresh rate) and features ELMB (Extreme Low-Motion Blur). VRR syncs the monitor refresh rate to the source signal, and ELMB can help to reduce blurriness in fast-action gaming. So both can be very useful for multi-device gaming setups.

What to consider before you buy

At the deal price, there’s a lot ot like about the Asus ROG XG27ACS. As a more affordable 1440p gaming monitor, it covers the major performance needs for most entry-level and midrange gamers. And it has plenty of ergonomic support with adjustable tilt, swivel, pivot, and height options. It lacks some wow factor of premium alternatives (for example, no local dimming zones).
