ASUS ROG Swift 39” Ultrawide 800R Curved OLED Gaming Monitor (PG39WCDM)

21:9 (3440×1440), 240Hz, 0.03ms, G-SYNC Compatible, Custom Heatsink, 90W USB-C, DisplayWidget, 3 yr Warranty

Key features and specs explained

  • OLED display: These are some of the best screens around, and are known for their extremely impressive contrast, sharp picture quality, and vivid color. QD-OLED screens are a bit brighter with better color, but they don’t have as high-contrast as traditional OLED. If you want to the most realistic picture quality possible, and something that will look incredible in lower light environments, then this OLED monitor is the way to go.
  • VESA DisplayHDR 400: A certification that can only be achieved if a monitor can reproduce color accurately and has a minimum brightness of 400 nits. This is a great sign that this is a high-end monitor, but it does show that it’s not super bright, compared with some of your mini-LED options. That’s to be expected with OLEDs though.
  • 3440 x 1440 resolution: Asides from some one-off monitors, you’ll rarely find dual 4K on an ultrawide display, and to be honest it’s fairly unnecessary. This ultrawide QHD resolution is ideal for most set ups, and looks great at this size screen. Its 21:9 aspect ratio is also excellent for watching content, as it is for giving you a wider field of view when gaming.
  • 99% DCI-P3 and Delta E < 2 color: These both indicate that this monitor can achieve very accurate color. In fact, Delta E < 2 means that the color difference between what’s shown on screen and real life is so small, that you basically can’t notice it. That’s great for everyday usage and gaming, but also good if you’re a video-editor or designer.
  • 240hz, 0.03ms response time: A super high refresh rate for fast-paced, high fps gaming, plus a lower than usual response time to ensure fluid on-screen motion.
  • USB-C 90W PD: This is something you really only see in high-end monitors, and it’s a game-changer. It allows you to charge devices as well as use it for fast data transfer. This is great for keeping desk-clutter to a minimum, and using your monitor as more of a main-hub for some of your other devices.

Is this monitor for you?

If you’re someone who has more a mid to high-end PC build, enjoys more immersive gaming experiences, and potentially does some content creation or creative work, then this monitor ticks all the right boxes. For the price, it’s pretty bang on where I’d place it for something this premium, and large. And speaking of size, obviously this monitor wouldn’t be for smaller spaces. If that sound more like you, I’d recommend checking out some of the 34″ options available on the market, many of which still give you that sense of immersion, but without dominating your space. They’re also significantly cheaper too.

Overall, this gaming monitor is one of the best you’ll find, from one of the leading brands on the market. If you want to make the most out of your gaming rig, it’s worth considering this now that it’s reduced in price.
