Even though Christmas is behind us, it seems Amazon has not given up on its tech discounts, as we just spotted a very decent discount on the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X, the latest and greatest flagship processor from AMD, which was released just a few months back in August.
AMD Ryzen 9 9950X
Usually, you will find the Ryzen 9 9950X available at its MSRP of $650, but this 8% price cut has dropped the processor to around $595, that’s $55 in savings on one of the most performance-packed CPUs of 2025. As per Camelcamelcamel, this $595 price tag is the lowest the 9950X has been available at before, so if you’ve been planning to upgrade your setup, this might be a great time.Â

Features and highlights of the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X
- CPU cores: AMD has equipped the Ryzen 9 9950X with 16 cores and 32 threads. These cores can boost at up to 5.7GHz while maintaining a base frequency of 4.3GHz. As a result, you can expect this processor to handle all CPU-intensive workloads without breaking a sweat.
- L3 cache: While not as much as the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the 9950X has 64MB of shared L3 cache, which, when combined with the rest of its specifications, makes it very capable of running all the latest AAA titles easily.
- Unlocked multiplier: The CPU also comes with an unlocked multiplier, meaning if the 5.7GHz of turbo clock speed is not enough for your needs, you can always take things in your own hands and overclock the processor for even more performance, just make sure you have the right cooling for it.Â
- Power consumption: Speaking of cooling, the Ryzen 9 9950X carries a whopping 170W TDP rating. As such, make sure you pair it with an equally high-end AIO to prevent thermal throttling. I recommend checking our guide on the best CPU coolers for Ryzen 9 9950X for some great choices.
- RAM support: Just like the rest of the AM5 CPUs, the 9950X only supports DDR5 RAM. While this can raise your platform cost, DDR5 is the latest memory standard, so the performance you get is unparalleled.
- Motherboard support: Even though AMD has released its 800 series of chipsets for the Ryzen 9000 processors, you can use an older 600 series motherboard with them to save costs. However, it’s not the best idea. A flagship processor like the 9950X should be paired with one of the best X870E motherboards to unlock its full potential.
Is the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X deal good?
When we reviewed the Ryzen 9 9950X, we were very impressed by its multi-core performance. The CPU scored 16,960 points in CPU-Z multi and 40,937 points in Cinebench R23, making it an excellent choice for anyone who is looking for a processor that can handle all CPU-bounded workloads. As for gaming, the processor ran Cyberpunk 2077 with 319 FPS on average at 1080p (paired with an RTX 4070 Ti). We also checked its overclocking potential by enabling PBO to see the performance difference. With PBO, the CPU scored 32,202 points in Cinebench R23 and 17,421 points in CPU Z multi-core benchmarks. This is a considerable performance improvement, but it should be mentioned that we also noted a significant rise in thermals with our 240mm AIO, so we’d recommend a 360mm cooler if you’re planning to overclock. With that said, given the now reduced pricing, the 9950X comes across as a very good choice for anyone who wants a performance-packed processor.
