Why Is Your Xfinity Remote Not Working?

Another potential cause could be a signal problem between the remote and the Xfinity set-top box. Ensure that there are no obstructions blocking the line of sight between the remote and the box, and try resetting the remote and the box if necessary.

If these basic troubleshooting steps don’t solve the problem, it’s advisable to contact Xfinity customer support for further assistance. They can provide you with specific troubleshooting instructions based on the model of your remote and the equipment you’re using.

Drained-Out Batteries

One common reason for a Xfinity remote not working is drained-out batteries. When the batteries are low or completely dead, the remote may become unresponsive.

To address this issue, try replacing the batteries with fresh ones. Make sure to insert them correctly, matching the positive and negative ends. After replacing the batteries, check if the remote starts functioning properly again.

This simple step often resolves the problem and restores the functionality of the remote. If the issue persists despite changing the batteries, it may be necessary to explore other potential causes of the remote not working.

Issues With The Programming

If the remote is not programmed correctly for the television, then it is not going to work. If you suspect this to be the reason your Xfinity remote is not working, then not to worry! It is an effortless fix.

Issues With The App

The app itself could also cause concerns if it does not work properly. If the app does not work, then the remote will not work, either.

How To Fix The Xfinity Remote

Luckily, there are many ways to fix an unresponsive Xfinity remote. Let’s check out some solutions!

Step

1

Program Your Xfinity Remote

Firstly, you should check to see if your Xfinity remote is programmed correctly.

Different TVs have different ways of connecting to the Xfinity remote, so you will need to make sure that this is correct for the remote to work again.

There are many ways to do this, depending on the model of the Xfinity remote, so let’s go through them!

Step

2

Programming The XR16 Remote

This Xfinity remote works with the Xfinity Flex TV box.

All you need to do is point the remote at the television and press the “Voice” button.

Then, on-screen instructions will appear on the TV. Follow them to finish pairing the remote and the box.

If you have a normal TV, then you need to press and hold the “Voice” button, and then say the “Program Remote” instruction.

All you have to do from here is follow the instructions and check to see if the remote works.

Step

Programming The XR15 Remote

To program this remote to a TV, you need to press and hold down both the mute and Xfinity button on the remote for at least five seconds.

Once the light on the top of the remote changes color, (red to green).

Then, you enter the TV-specific 5-digit code, which you can find on the Xfinity website. Now, the remote should have paired and be in working order again!

To program this remote to a Xfinity X1 box, then you need to press down and hold the Xfinity and “i” button.

Then, you will have access to a code that will give you further access to screen prompts.

Follow these to pair to the Xfinity remote.

Resetting The Xfinity Remote

Unfortunately, your Xfinity remote may not work even after these changes.

If you find your remote is still not working, then there may be a problem with the remote itself, rather than its connection to the TV.

If you suspect this to be the issue, then it is time to reset the Xfinity remote.

Here’s how to do it!
