However, the RTX 4080 compensates for its slightly lower clock speeds with faster memory. While both GPUs come equipped with 16 GB of VRAM and a 256-bit memory bus, the RTX 4080 boasts a higher memory clock of 1400 MHz, translating to an impressive 22.4 Gbps effective memory speed, as opposed to the 4070 Ti Super’s 1313 MHz, resulting in 21 Gbps effective memory speed.

Moving on to core counts, the RTX 4080 outpaces the RTX 4070 Ti Super in shading units and SM (Streaming Multiprocessor) count. The 4080 features 9728 shading units across 76 SMs, whereas the 4070 Ti Super has 8448 shading units distributed across 66 SMs. Both GPUs share the same L1 and L2 cache configurations per SM. However, the RTX 4080 has a larger overall L2 cache size at 64 GB compared to the 4070 Ti Super’s 48 MB.

RTX 4070 Ti Super vs RTX 4080 – Performance

When looking at performance, our judgements are rooted in our in-house reviews of the Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti Super and Nvidia RTX 4080. Make sure to check them out to go deeper into this analysis. The GPUs feature the same architecture and process size. However, there’s a difference in how they perform, especially in gaming. The RTX 4070 Ti Super offers better clock speeds. This can translate into better real-time performance in applications that rely heavily on clock speeds.

However, the RTX 4080 compensates for this with a faster memory subsystem, featuring a higher memory clock of 1400 MHz compared to the 4070 Ti Super’s 1313 MHz. This contributes to an effective memory speed of 22.4 Gbps for the RTX 4080, potentially enhancing its performance in memory-intensive applications.

The RTX 4080 also boasts more cores with 9728 shading units. This higher core count positions the RTX 4080 as a more potent solution for graphics-intensive workloads. It offers enhanced parallel processing capabilities that translate into superior performance in demanding gaming scenarios and professional applications. In short, this gives the 4080 an edge over the 4070 Ti Super for gaming performance – but the difference isn’t massive. In the real world, the 4080 is probably the best bet if you’re playing games at 4K, while the Super Ti’s sweet spot is 1440p. This was supported in our 4070 Ti Super review.

What do you want from your GPU?

Before deciding to purchase a new graphics card it’s important to understand what you want from your PC. If you’re an advid gamer or a professional requiring ultimate power; knowing the benefits of different graphics card can be extremely helpful in finding something that will meet your personal needs. When it comes to these two cards, it’s really about 4K versus 1440p gaming. The 4080 is still a powerful card for those wanting 4k at decent FPS, but if you have a 1440p monitor, and want to enable features such as ray tracing at minimal cost to performance, the 4070 TI Super absolutely will fit the bill.

RTX 4070 Ti Super vs RTX 4080 – Price and value

The RTX 4070 Ti Super is priced at $799, presenting a more affordable option for users who are conscious of their budget. This makes it an attractive choice for individuals seeking a capable GPU without delving into the higher price range.

The RTX 4080 stands at a significantly large price point, $1,199, however with the RTX 4080 Super now out, prices for this older card will begin to fall. While this places it in a premium category, the increased cost comes with superior specifications, including higher core counts, faster memory, and more advanced tensor cores. For users who prioritize top-tier performance and are willing to invest in cutting-edge technology, the RTX 4080 might be a worthwhile choice. Be aware, though, that the expected Nvidia 50 Series GPUs are expected to turn up sometime soon, so it could be worth waiting a while if you want further discounts on the RTX 4080.

The value proposition, therefore, hinges on the user’s specific needs and financial considerations. The RTX 4070 Ti Super offers a compelling balance between performance and affordability, making it an attractive option on a budget for a broad audience, including gamers and content creators. On the other hand, the RTX 4080 caters to enthusiasts and professionals who demand the pinnacle of performance, with the understanding that they are making a premium investment. That being said, we would strongly recommend opting for the 4080 Super over the original card.

Can the RTX 4080 run games at 4K?

Being able to run games at 4K is pretty standard for any high-ranking graphics card; with this in mind, it’s safe to say that the RTX 4080 can certainly run games at 4K. But, how well? The RTX 4080 has no trouble running 4K at 60FPS and can even reach heights of 120FPS (with the right adjustments in settings). Making it considerably better in this area than other members of the RTX 40 family, like the RTX 4070 which struggles to run 4K at framerates around the 60FPS/frames per second mark.

Final verdict

Ultimately, it is a very close call between these two cards. If you are looking for core power, we recommend the RTX 4080. However, the RTX 40 Super series has enhanced AI capabilities and features which are also exciting. While both cards seem to pull audiences one way then another, the price element is quite telling on this one. Unfortunately, the RTX 4080 is close to $300 more than the RTX 4070 Ti Super meaning the latter provides better value overall. As a result, the RTX 4070 Ti Super is a great choice and comes out on top here.
