RTX 50 series release date
As of the 6th of January, following the CES keynote, Nvidia have confirmed the released date for four different 50-series SKUs, which you can seen below. We haven’t yet heard about the RTX 5060 Ti, RTX 5060, or RTX 5050 or even had their existences definitely confirmed, though if Nvidia’s previous release patterns are a good example, we can probably expect to see at least the RTX 5060 Ti & RTX 5060 release date in March 2025.

RTX 50 series specs (confirmed & rumored)
The below specs for the RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 Ti, and 5070 have all been confirmed. The RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 specs aren’t yet definitive, but given most of the predictions about the other SKUs were accurate we can probably assume the below predictions on these cards will be too.
The RTX 50-series GPUs are a bit more power-hungry than the RTX 40-series lineup, so you might need to get a beefier PSU. Additionally most will require a 12V-2×6 GPU connector for the higher-end models at least, which should help address the power cable-related issues that users faced with the 40-series on the older 12VHPWR standard.
The RTX 5080 shows the weakest upgrade of the bunch, only having a 3% increase in CUDA cores over its predecessor, the RTX 4080, which supposedly amounts to roughly a ~15% uplift in raw performance terms (with DLSS 4 disabled) based on the latest benchmark info released by Nvidia. From the same source, the RTX 5090 is expected to perform ~25% better than the RTX 4090, and the RTX 5070 Ti and 5070 about ~20% better than their predecessors. Probably the biggest draw of these new cards will then be from the Multi-Frame generation tech they will be able to implement thanks to full DLSS 4 support.
Looking at the video memory, as shown in the table below, the RTX 5090 offers 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM, with no other card even stepping up to 20GB or 24GB. However, it also has a very high TDP of 575W, meaning you'll need a top-tier PSU to power it. It is also expected to be liquid-cooled, as usual with some SKUs, something that will make sure that this beast stays cool during extended gaming sessions.

RTX 50 series price info
We’ve listed below the current confirmed pricing information for all the different SKUs that Nvidia has released information on. Note that this is the price Nvidia have provided with reference to the Founder’s Edition of each card – when different AIB models are released by other brands (MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS etc.) you can expect to pay more money in many cases.
There’s been no confirmed information as of yet with regards to the pricing of RTX 5060 Ti, RTX 5060, or RTX 5050 cards.
- RTX 5090 (32GB): $1,999/£1,999/AU$4,039
- RTX 5080 (16GB): $999
- RTX 5070 Ti (16GB): $729
- RTX 5070 (12GB): $549
For reference, the RTX 4090, RTX 4080, and RTX 4070 were launched with a price tag of $1,599, $1,199, and $599, respectively. As far as the cheaper 5060 Ti and 5060 models go, we’re yet to see many suggestions, though they could see a marginal price increase from the $399 and $299 price tags from last-gen respectively. However, the 5060 price should ideally stay competitive if it wants to compete with Intel’s new Arc B580 at just $249.
Should I upgrade to the RTX 50 series if I already own an RTX 40 series GPU?
If you already have an RTX 4080 and are entirely concerned with raw, hardware-driven performance only, then it doesn’t make much sense to upgrade to the RTX 5080, given you’re only likely to get around 15% FPS uplift, depending on the title. The uplift offered by DLSS 4 makes it more worthwhile, particularly if you get sell your existing RTX 4080 for a different price, but still you may want to wait for the next generation of releases instead. If you own a card like the RTX 4070 or 4060, upgrading to the 5080 would make a lot more sense.
When did Nvidia announce the RTX 50 series?
As expected, Nvidia officially announced the RTX 50 series at CES 2025. You can see the full keynote presentation by CEO Jensen Huang on Nvidia’s website, which originally took place on January 6th at 6:30 PM, Pacific Time. This is where the first confirmed information about the release date, specs, performance, and pricing was revealed to the public.
