Intel might just be gearing up the next round of processors for its current-gen LGA 1700 socket. As per Jaykihn, a well-known Intel leaker, Intel is working on P-core only CPUs. These “Bartlett Lake” processor designs will likely feature up to twelve Raptor Cove P-cores and no E-cores. This news comes as a surprise given that Intel is expected to launch the 15th gen ‘Arrow Lake’ CPUs by the end of the year (though this remains unconfirmed).
Bartlett Lake-S Desktop CPUs may be based on LGA 1700 with full focus on performance cores
Earlier this year, there were speculations on Reddit about Bartlett Lake-S Desktop CPUs. The user who posted it suggested that these were Raptor Lake Refresh for the LGA 1700 platform. Some users commented that this lineup may be similar to what AMD did with the AM4 by releasing the X3D CPUs. If this happens, then the P-core chips might establish Intel as a long-term platform player.
Back in February, Red Tech Gaming also leaked the news of Bartlett Lake CPUs having only 12 P-cores (Performance Cores) and ditching the E-cores. Then, harukaze5719, another tipster, doubled down on the 12 P-core claims and even added that the chip might have 24MB L2 cache and 36MB shared L3 cache, which is similar to the i9-14900K.
In the same leak, Red Tech Gaming claimed that the Bartlett processors were originally designed for NEX customers, however, Intel wasn’t too sure about the target audience. And now according to Jaykhin’s new post on X, the new CPUs might be made available to customers and will be compatible with the older LGA 1700 sockets.
As per the same X post, Intel has plans to release a full lineup for the LGA 1700 platform. This includes Core 5, Core 7, and Core 9 SKUs based on the Bartlett design, as well as Core, Core 3, Core 5, and Core 7 processors powered by Alder Lake or Raptor Lake. The post also suggests that the Bartlett Lake processors might have a max TDP of 125W, which would put it on par with the latest Core i9-13900K and Core i9-14900K CPUs. Whether this shift in design could spell a turnaround for Raptor Lake in light of the recent 13th & 14th gen instability issues remains to be seen, but it’s something to consider.
With that being said, there is no confirmation about which “Cove” would these Intel processors use. However, the Intel leaker did mention that the Bartlett design would feature hyperthreading. In any case, it’d be interesting to see a 12 P-core-only CPU with a sizable cache, which might good news for overclockers.
Jaykihn also mentioned in her X post that the hybrid designs for LGA 1700 may be released around CES 2025, which might be January 2025. Meanwhile, the Bartlett Lake processor might be rolled out in Q3 of 2025. This is interesting because we already know that Intel is making the switch to LGA 1851 for the 15th gen, so launching new CPUs for an older socket is similar to what AMD has been doing for a long time now.
