Handheld and peripheral brand Abxylute has unveiled a new gaming controller designed for the PlayStation 5. “GTA VI is on the horizon. Time to upgrade your PS5 setup,” says the company in a post on its Discord server. Simply put, it aims to provide the quality of Sony’s premium DualSense Edge model, plus more, but with a price tag closer to the bog-standard PS5 pad.

The new P5 Wireless Controller for PS5 has been released, and it’s currently available with an early bird offer, dragging the price down from $89.99 USD / £70.00 GBP to just $75.99 USD / £59.00 GBP. Right now, it’s more or less the same price as an official DualSense controller, but it has much more to offer – programmable buttons, macros, and perhaps most importantly, Hall Effect sticks.

The new third-party controller works wirelessly with PlayStation 5, but also has the option of wired via USB-C, and offers compatibility across PC, Android, and iOS platforms. Much like the pricey DualSense, the P5 comes with 2 programmable back buttons with remapping support, but it also enables macro and turbo functionality.

There are some areas where Sony’s premium Edge controller takes the edge. The DualSense Edge comes with swappable stick modules ($19.99) and different back button shapes (level or half-dome) to choose from. So, while the Sony controller doesn’t come with Hall Effect sticks, you can replace them as soon as a problem such as stick drift occurs. On the flip side, the Hall Effect sticks on the Abxylute P5 will last much longer and are often described as ‘stick drift-proof’.

As far as battery life goes, the P5 offers “approximately 8 hours” of playtime on a 1,500mAh battery, while it weighs in at around 285g – making it slightly heavier than the standard PS5 DualSense (~280g), but lighter than the DualSense Edge (~325g). You can find the full specs sheet on Abxylute’s store.
