Computex is just around the corner, but that doesn’t stop some brands from announcing new products ahead of time. The latest in line is Acer, showing off this impressive mini gaming PC with two flagship pieces of consumer hardware crammed in – an RTX 4090 graphics card and Intel Core i9-14900KS processor.
The Predator Orion X is now available to view on the Acer website, and gives users the option to pick and choose between a few different variants, with the two flagships being the very best on show. We can now get a closer look at the prebuilt PC, and if you’re wondering how it can stay cool, then its hybrid cooling design is the answer.
RTX 4090 and Intel Core i9-14900KS in the Acer Predator Orion X
Wccftech got a closer look at the Orion X in all its glory, with the 4090 & 14900KS model being previewed ahead of Computex – which takes place in Taipei between June 4th and 7th. We can see some of the main components just below:
- Up to Intel Core i9 14900KS
- Up to RTX 4090 with custom liquid cooling
- Hot swappable M.2 Bay
- 240mm AIO liquid cooler with aRGB lighting
Looking at the Acer website, we can see that the Predator Orion X comes in a few different configurations, which are upgradeable. We’re of course most impressed by the very top model – and the kind of power they’ve managed to pack in without causing a literal fire. There are also variants with and RTX 4080 or the previous-gen i9-13900K, which is nothing to sniff at.
All of this is custom-engineered to fit the smaller form factor, creating a powerful portable PC, but it doesn’t come cheap. It will be available in North America from September and starts at $2,999.99. It will also be arriving the same month in Europe and China, retailing at €2,499 and RMB 29,999 respectively.
How does it keep cool?
The first thing that came to our minds was the issue of cooling. This kind of hardware draws a lot of power and a compact build generally isn’t great news for dealing with that. However, its clever design means the space capsule-inspired rig is split into multiple zones, housing the CPU, GPU, and liquid cooling system separately.
Furthermore, the CPU is fitted with a 240mm radiator, while the GPU has a triple-cooler with built-in radiator and pump for optimal cooling. This hybrid cooling design makes for outstanding thermals given how compact it is. The chassis itself weights just 9 kg (19.8 lbs) for reference.
