AMD is claiming some ground in the GPU market, at least according to the latest sales report from Mindfactory, a large German retailer. The Radeon RX 7800 XT, AMD’s mid to high-range GPU, has taken the top spot in the weekly sales rankings, outselling Nvidia’s offerings and demonstrating the company’s growing competitiveness.
The report for week 38, ending September 22, reveals that AMD captured 45.69% of the GPU market share, while Nvidia held a 53.35% share. Intel’s ARC GPUs continued to struggle, accounting for a mere 0.96% of sales. This comes in contrast to a similar report from the previous week, where the RTX 4080 Super claimed the most sales.
RX 7800 XT was the most sold GPU at Mindfactory in the last week
In terms of unit sales, AMD sold 955 GPUs, compared to Nvidia’s 1115 units. Furthermore, Nvidia’s average selling price was higher at €694, while AMD’s ASP was €481. This indicates that Nvidia sold more mid-range and high-end GPUs, contributing to its higher overall revenue. This is evident in the case of the Super refreshed models.

A significant achievement?
You could see RX 7800 XT’s success as a significant achievement for AMD, though it is still closely followed by Nvidia’s more recent ‘Super’ GPUs. Either way, the card has been praised for competitive gaming performance at a more affordable price point than many of Nvidia’s comparative models. This has made it a popular choice among gamers seeking a balance between performance and cost – in our RX 7800 XT review, we noted that it’s “an excellent graphics card for gaming with an all-star price point”.
AMD’s strong performance in the mid-range segment is a positive sign for the company’s future. It demonstrates that AMD’s strategy of offering competitive pricing and performance is resonating with consumers. With the news that the upcoming RX 8000 series likely won’t include any high-end GPUs, it seems like Team Red is doubling down on this market space.
