AMD has once again demonstrated its aggressive pursuit of being the best by revealing that it’s already in the early stages of developing Zen 7 processors. This comes as a surprise given that the next-gen Zen 5 CPUs are just around the corner with the introduction of the Ryzen 9000 series. The confirmation of Zen 7’s existence was shared by AMD CTO Mark Papermaster during the company’s Zen 5 Tech Day, where the tech giant also officially named the successor to Zen 5, that being Zen 6.
While details about Zen 7 are scarce, the announcement provides a fascinating glimpse into AMD’s long-term roadmap. It’s clear that the company is committed to maintaining its momentum in the CPU market and staying ahead of the competition.
Focus is on Zen 5 for now, but Zen 6 has also been revealed
We’ve previously touched on AMD’s commitment to the Zen brand, with the confirmation of “Morpheus” as the codename for Zen 6. This consistent naming convention underscores the importance of the Zen architecture to AMD’s product strategy. As for the immediate future, the spotlight is on Zen 5, which is set to launch on July 31st (so you can find out where to buy one of these new CPUs right now)

This generation promises significant performance improvements and new features. AMD has also confirmed that the current AM5 platform will be supported until at least 2027, ensuring compatibility with both Zen 5 and Zen 6 CPUs.
When will Zen 6 and Zen 7 arrive?
Looking further ahead, it’s reasonable to speculate that Zen 6 CPUs might arrive in mid-2026, with Zen 7 potentially debuting in early 2028. However, these are estimates based on AMD’s historical release strategy and should be taken with a grain of salt. So, while consumers are eagerly anticipating the arrival of Zen 5, AMD is already laying the groundwork for the processors that will power systems several years down the line.
