A third-party tool now suggests that AMD is preparing to upgrade FSR with support for Multi Frame Generation (MFG) technology. The move looks to be a direct response to Nvidia, which continues to upgrade – now up to a 6x mode in DLSS 4.5 along with the introduction of Dynamic MFG earlier this year to ensure frame gen is only running when it needs to be.

So far, AMD has been cautious with multi frame gen, while the likes of Nvidia and Intel keep pushing the AI-powered technology. But newly spotted references to FSR MFG seem to back up previous leaks. Back in April, code spotted in AMD’s open-source ADLX developer kit suggested Radeon GPU owners could soon be getting access to 4x or 6x modes.

FSR Multi Frame Generation coming soon?

This information comes from a user on the Chinese-language Chiphell forums, who says they replaced the official driver panel (AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition) with a third-party software named RadeonTuner. Within this software, references to FSR Multi Frame Generation have already been exposed, alongside FSR Ray Regeneration and FSR Neural Radiance overrides.

It’s worth noting that on the RadeonTuner GitHub, only the standard FSR Upscaling Override and FSR Frame Generation Override options are listed. The new options seem to have been exposed following the recent Adrenalin 26.6.2 WHQL drivers.

In the screenshot above, there are five toggle options available in the FSR Override options. The image also makes reference to an ‘8X’ ratio for FSR MFG. The user is running AMD’s current flagship RX 9070 XT graphics card, which may suggest these additional options will be available exclusively to the RX 9000 series generation, powered by RDNA 4 architecture.

It’s less than a month since AMD brought the upscaling portion of FSR 4.1 to its last-gen GPUs, the RX 7000 series. The support actually arrived as a surprise, one month earlier than expected. FSR 4.1 upscaling will also be coming to the RX 6000 series early next year, but there’s currently no indication that the latest Frame Generation model will arrive on these cards.
