AMD motherboard sales are thriving in a region which Intel traditionally dominates

Despite being a traditional Intel stronghold, it seems that sales of Intel-compatible motherboards have fallen off in China as AMD makes significant gains.
For many years, those considering a new PC build would usually look at Intel CPUs and compatible motherboards first. That was certainly true in China, where Intel has been the primary source of motherboards and CPUs for a long time. This appears to be changing, however.
Motherboard sales in China are starting to favor AMD
Noted hardware blogger and leaker HXL posted on Twitter/X with an image captured from Board Channels. Board Channels is the forum used by many board partners for prominent PC hardware vendors such as AMD, Nvidia, and Intel, and is often a useful source of information on the industry.
The post was in Chinese but concerned Intel's sales performance in China compared with AMD. When machine translated, it discussed the performance issues experienced by some recent Intel CPUs – notably the 13th and 14th generation CPUs – along with AMD processors’ performance surpassing that of Intel chips.
The post noted that AMD platform sales have “benefited greatly” from Intel's problems. The post went on to say that AMD's sales figures show that first-quarter sales performance has grown by “leaps and bounds” and its market share is approaching 50%.
If accurate, this is a huge blow for Intel. China is a massive market, and to lose such a huge share of it does not bode well for Intel. Despite the new CEO promising to turn the company around, many commentators remain cynical about the future of Intel. As one commenter said on Twitter: “Do you think they would be able to get their s*** together? Each month, it feels like they’re falling harder and harder. Will they go bankrupt or be bought by another company?”
While we wouldn’t go as far as that, Intel seems to have an uphill battle ahead.
