AMD schedules event where it will announce new GPUs, but they’re not for gaming
Table of Contents
It has been just over a month since AMD launched its latest generation of graphics cards, the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT. These two cards entered the market as mid-range (or you could argue upper-mid) GPUs and offer a level of performance that challenges Nvidia’s RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti.
Following 9070, we expect to see the RX 9060 series. AMD has already revealed this is coming in Q2, though nothing has been confirmed beyond that detail. What Team Red has announced, however, is ‘Advancing AI 2025,’ a special event which will take place on June 12th and will include new Instinct GPUs.
- GPU: Navi 48 XT
- Stream Processors: 4,096
- VRAM: 16GB GDDR6
- Memory Bus Width: 256-bit
- Base/Game/Boost clock speed: 1,660/2,400/2,970 MHz
- TBP: 304W
AMD announces ‘Advancing AI 2025’ event
AMD’s CEO, Lisa Su, will be taking to the stage to discuss AI ecosystems and AMD’s latest developments in the sector. This announcement comes soon after Su confirmed the RX 9070 XT as the best-selling Radeon GPU during launch week, with sales being “10x higher than previous generations”. However, don’t expect to see any gaming-focused graphics cards at the event.
Instead, AMD will be announcing new Instinct GPUs. For those unaware, AMD Instinct refers to the company’s brand of AI GPUs for data centers, much like the ones Nvidia pioneered to become one of the biggest companies on the planet. Of course, AMD was quick to try and replicate that sort of success.
The event will be taking place on June 12th and kicks off at 9:30 am, Pacific Time. You’ll be able to tune into a live stream on the AMD YouTube channel. The company will also be discussing ROCm, which is AMD’s open-source software platform for GPU programming; this includes drivers, development tools, and APIs.
