“10x higher than previous generations” AMD CEO Lisa Su praises RX 9070 XT launch as best in Radeon history

AMD launched its latest generation of graphics cards with two models: the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT. It’s safe to say that the XT variant garnered the most attention and had the most stock out there for gamers to snap up. Demand has been high, especially since key rival Nvidia failed to offer a sustainable number of cards as well. We quickly saw the RX 9000 series cards go out of stock across popular retailers, and AMD has already said it is working on replenishing this.
In a recent interview with the General Manager of ASUS China, Tony Yu, AMD CEO Lisa Su reiterated that the company is ramping up production in response to the incredible reaction from PC gamers. She reveals that targeting below the tier of “very high-end” GPUs has paid off.
- GPU: Navi 48 XT
- Stream Processors: 4,096
- VRAM: 16GB GDDR6
- Memory Bus Width: 256-bit
- Base/Game/Boost clock speed: 1,660/2,400/2,970 MHz
- TBP: 304W
RX 9070 XT has the best first-week sales of any Radeon GPU
When asked about the development and launch of the new RX 9000 series cards, Su was quick to praise the entire team behind the latest RDNA 4 architecture, noting that a generation’s “primary characteristics” need to be planned “many years in advance”.
“For RDNA 4, what we really wanted to do was bring the best gaming capability to a very good price point, so we could get more gamers access to this technology. Of course, everyone likes a very high-end GPU, but not so many people can access it. So, 9070 XT has been a fantastic success, actually it’s the number one selling for all of the AMD Radeon generations. For first week sales, is by far, 10x higher than previous generations.”
Dr Lisa Su, AMD CEO
Su adds that “people are very happy with 9070 XT,” going on to say that AMD is “increasing the manufacturing” to give more gamers access to the latest generation of Radeon cards. In our review of the RX 9070 XT, we note that the card can fight with Nvidia at a lower price point, though inflated prices remain a problem as availability is low.
Overall, it’s safe to say the RX 9070 series launch has been a success for Team Red. We always feel like there could be more stock to go around, but once that all settles, we hope to see the value for money be a key factor. Hopefully, the RX 9070 and 9070 XT can return to AMD’s recommended $549 and $599 price tags, respectively.
