Lenovo launched the Legion Go S handheld at the start of the year, but it was only available with Windows 11. Then, in May, we saw the launch of the SteamOS version – the one that got everyone talking. It has now had its price cut on Best Buy. It’s only $50 cheaper than full price, but it’s nice to see a discount already arriving (and the Z1 Extreme model is $70 cheaper than the Windows version).

Reviewers were quick to point out that the SteamOS model was “So much better than the Windows version,” with higher average framerates and a longer battery life on the more efficient Linux-based operating system.

The newer Legion Go S handhelds with SteamOS got a price hike ahead of launch, shooting the price up to $599.99 and $829.99 for the 32GB RAM / 16GB RAM models, respectively. This small $50 discount isn’t the biggest we’ll ever see, but it helps drop them closer to the original pricing on Best Buy. It’s assumed that ongoing tariff issues at the time caused the sudden price spike.

When these two models originally went up for pre-order, they were listed at $549.99 and $749.99, so at least the 16GB RAM model is back down to where it should be.

Now that Valve has opened up SteamOS to more devices, starting with AMD-powered handhelds like the Legion Go S, Microsoft has been quick to commit more to making Windows more optimized on the smaller form factor. Part of that is the new unified game library for Windows 11, which has been tested ahead of the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds coming this holiday season.
