It has been months since Lenovo announced the latest additions to its product lineup, which included the Legion Go S powered by SteamOS with a launch window of May 2025. This came after the revelation that SteamOS would no longer be exclusive to the Steam Deck, making way for the first non-Valve handheld to utilize the operating system. While Lenovo’s Legion Go has been an excellent alternative to the Steam Deck, the lack of SteamOS support has been one of the main drawbacks for many, and now that's set to change for good.

That said, despite being months away from the launch of the Steam OS variant Legion Go S, we're already starting to see the first listings for the handheld go live. It’s worth noting that there is already a Windows 11 version of the Go S, which was released earlier this year. Popular retailer Best Buy is where the upcoming SteamOS-powered Legion Go S is listed for pre-order at $50 more than we initially expected, and we're also getting two different models.

SteamOS Lenovo Legion Go S starting at $549

The Lenovo Legion Go S, according to Best Buy’s pre-order listing, will be available starting at $549 for the Ryzen Z2 Go-powered 512GB variant. On the other hand, the Ryzen Z1 Extreme-powered Legion Go S with 1TB of storage is now available for pre-order at $749. While we were already aware of the specifications, pricing was something we hadn’t quite nailed down yet.

As we can see from the product pages for these two new models, they will be released on May 25th.

We previously expected the Z2 Go variant to cost $499, while the more powerful variant was anticipated to be priced at $729, as reported by Micro Center just ahead of Lenovo’s keynote. However, the new listings put the handhelds at $50 and $20 more than our previous expectations, respectively.

Support for non-Steam Deck handhelds has also started

Along with the first pre-order listing for the SteamOS Lenovo Legion Go S, Valve also recently pushed a preview update for SteamOS, mentioning the “beginnings of support for non-Steam Deck handhelds.” All of this indicates that the Lenovo Legion Go S is on track to arrive in the coming months without any delays.

Interestingly, apart from the Lenovo Legion Go S, we also saw some promising news about SteamOS on the ASUS ROG Ally, as a “display configuration” was spotted being worked on for Windows-based handhelds to get them running on Valve's Linux-based operating system, with references to both the ASUS ROG Ally and ROG Ally X. So it is safe to say that more non-Steam Deck handhelds will be joining the SteamOS ecosystem, but for now, the one to look forward to is the Lenovo Legion Go S.
