We usually say it’s safe to say that the Steam Deck is the most popular gaming PC handheld. That’s thanks to many factors, from its ease of use, lightweight SteamOS design, and budget-friendly price tag. Well, months after finding out that SteamOS will no longer be Steam Deck exclusive, the first non-Valve handheld to utilize the operating system could be on the way this May.
Lenovo’s Legion Go has been an excellent alternative to the Steam Deck for over a year now, offering a bigger screen, higher resolution, and juiced-up specs to accommodate. News that a SteamOS version of the Legion Go could become a reality is an exciting prospect and follows up rumors filled by a leaked render with a dedicated Steam button.
An official announcement is now live via this Lenovo press release, which lists the Legion Go S powered by SteamOS for May 2025 “with an expected starting price of $499.99”.
Lenovo Legion Go S reportedly gets a SteamOS model this May
As reported by Micro Center just ahead of the Lenovo keynote, the supposed budget-friendly Legion Go S will be available in January with a starting price of $729. We’re not overly convinced by the price tag, but the news that a Steam OS-based version coming later in May (and a cheaper price) is fantastic. This follows Valve releasing some ‘Powered by SteamOS‘ product guidelines late last year that helped fuel speculation further.
As previously speculated, the Legion Go S will offer a new AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor – and it will reportedly come in a Z1 Extreme variant too. However, as we’re talking about the cut-down model here, you lose the detachable controllers and the screen size has been lowered to 8″ (down from 8.8″ on the original device).
