Samsung is reportedly getting ready to take foldable phones to the next level, just as fresh reports of an iPhone foldable began to surface. The South Korean tech giant will begin mass production of its first-ever tri-fold phone in September 2025. You probably guessed it, but this new phone has two folds, unlike most current foldables that only have one crease.
On top of that, it's expected to launch sometime in the last three months of the year, likely around the same time as other new Galaxy products. There have already been some substantial leaks for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and there will likely be a Flip 7 coming alongside it.

Samsung’s first-ever tri-fold phone
This will be Samsung's first phone that has two folding points. Because of this, the company is being very careful with how it brings the product to market. Instead of going full steam ahead, the report suggests that Samsung will only produce a small number of units, before seeing how the market reacts in order to improve the phone if needed.
According to the information shared by industry insider Jukan Choi on X, production will begin at Samsung's main phone factory in Gumi, South Korea. Most of the first batch will be sold in South Korea and China. As far as the price is concerned, it is expected to be over 4 million Korean won, which is around $3,000 USD.
Industry experts believe Samsung may give us a first look at the tri-fold phone during the Galaxy Unpacked event on September 9 in New York. While we might not get a full reveal, Samsung could show off parts of the phone, like its design or some of its basic specs, which should be sure to generate some hype – and probably some doubt over its reliability.
Samsung isn't the only company working on tri-fold phones. Huawei already released its Mate XT tri-fold phone last year in China and launched it globally earlier this year. That phone sold over 400,000 units in just two months, and because of its success, the company is reportedly working on its successor.
Samsung's tri-fold phone is expected to feature a 10-inch OLED screen that folds twice. This screen needs to be more flexible and durable than regular foldable displays. The phone is likely to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, one of the best chips available, so users can expect great performance. However, because of the phone's thin design and complex shape, it may not have a very large battery. Huawei, for example, was able to fit a 5,600mAh battery into its Mate XT. Samsung, on the other hand, seems to be focusing more on making the device slim and light.
