AMD’s latest GPUs are still nowhere to be seen in Steam’s new hardware survey

The Radeon RX 9000 GPUs, RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT, made huge waves upon their release as they offered better performance at a lower cost than the competition. AMD also tried to ensure that there was plenty of stock to go around, and looking at the performance and community response, it gave the impression that many gamers would be upgrading to either of these GPUs.

RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT are a no-show
However, according to the Steam Hardware and Software Survey of May 2025, the RX 9070 and the RX 9070 XT are nowhere to be seen; they aren't even in the top 30. While this may change in the coming months or years, the data does indicate that not many people have upgraded their setups, and the most commonly used GPU is still the RTX 3060 (though this was briefly replaced by the 4060 Ti laptop GPU last month).
That being said, we wouldn't be surprised if 3060 users were to upgrade to either of the Radeon 9000 GPUs, given the performance difference and value for money. The first mention of Radeon graphics in the survey was at the 13th position with “AMD Radeon Graphics”.
After that, there was “AMD Radeon (™) Graphics”, and at the 29th position was the first discrete GPU, RX 6600. In all honesty, it isn't that surprising because the community doesn't tend to upgrade as soon as new hardware is dropped, and the percentage that does is relatively small. There’s also a chance that the new cards are being listed under these umbrella ‘graphics’ entries, rather than being recognized individually by Steam’s hardware survey.
Either way, if older hardware is still making the charts, it means that users are sticking to their rigs that get the job done, will get their money's worth out of it, and then upgrade in a couple of years. However, looking at the data, it seems AMD made the right call by targeting the budget and mid-range GPU market, as the top 12 GPUs are all budget and mid-range cards. Here are the top 12 graphics cards:
- RTX 3060
- RTX 4060 (Laptop GPU)
