AMD’s Radeon RDNA 4 RX 8000 series debuts on Geekbench, followed by new specs rumors

Table of Contents
For a while now, there has been speculation about the upcoming RX 8000 series, which is AMD's next generation of GPUs. So far, not much is known for sure about these graphics cards except that the series would be built on the new RDNA 4 architecture, and it is likely to be released in 2025. In fact, there have been rumors that AMD might share a glimpse at CES 2025.
While the official launch might be months away, we are starting to see some early sneak peeks into the RX 8000 series. In fact, the series has made its first appearance on Geekbench with an unnamed GPU, and we are getting some insight into the specs.
RX 8000 series arrives on Geekbench
The GPU was first spotted by BenchLeaks, and the links to benchmarks were posted on X. Now, the RX 8000 series graphics card has been benchmarked under the name “GFX1201,” which is the architectural reference for RDNA 4.

As seen in the screenshot above, the AMD GPU has 28 Compute Units and a maximum frequency of 2101 MHz. If we look at how AMD distributes the cores, this GPU might have 56 Compute Units and about 3,584 Stream Processors. Further, the benchmark suggests that the GPU would come with a 16GB VRAM, but it does not specify whether it is GDDR6 or GDDR6X.
While the performance of the GPU seems underwhelming, it should be noted that this is likely to be an engineering sample, which does not reflect the final numbers. As we reported earlier, AMD and the board partners are focusing their resources on RDNA 4 GPU production, which might mean that the graphics cards are in the late stages of development. If this is the case, then we might actually see the RX 8000 series GPUs at CES 2025.
New leak suggests that the RDNA 4 GPUs will have 20 Gbps GDDR6 memory
According to a recent rumor, it seems that the upcoming 8000 series GPUs will feature GDDR6 memory. The post on X by Kepler_L2 seems to suggest that one of the GPUs will have a 256-bit memory bus, and the other will have a 192-bit bus. Further, the memory speed will be 18, 19, and 20 Gbps, depending on the variant that you go for.
As it can be seen in the screenshot above, the leaker only mentions memory bus and speed. We don’t yet know which GPUs will have these specs mentioned above. Going back to the leaked benchmarks above, we don’t actually get to know the memory type, as it only discloses the VRAM (16GB in this case).
In case you missed it, earlier this month, AMD launched the Ryzen 9000 series, which is the latest generation of desktop CPUs. In addition to this, the company is also gearing up for AI-powered processors, such as the Strix Halo series, as well as other products.
