AMD’s RX 9070 XT could be notably cheaper than the RTX 5070, according to a new rumor
Table of Contents
AMD has been relatively secretive about its upcoming RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards. In fact, it failed to mention it at all in its CES 2025 keynote, but we do already know they’re on the way, with board partners already showing off their designs at the event. The specifications and performance are yet to be revealed, and there has (until now) been little idea of how much they will cost.
Some people have speculated that Team Red was simply waiting for Nvidia to announce its 50 series pricing before committing to a reveal, and now, a fresh rumor suggests that the RX 9070 XT will be cheaper than the RTX 5070. On top of that, recently leaked tests show the RX 9070 XT outperforming RTX 4080 Super, which tells us that AMD could be onto a winner.

RX 9070 XT reference card rumored to cost $479
While this price rumor will have to be taken with a pinch of salt for now, a reliable leaker on the Chiphell forum suggests that the RX 9070 XT reference card could cost $479 – that’s $70 cheaper than the RTX 5070 MSRP, and $270 cheaper than the RTX 5070 Ti. However, when it comes to custom AIBs, we could be looking more within the $549 region. That’s a surprisingly large gap and would raise it up to match Nvidia’s Founders Edition RTX 5070.
Speaking of AIBs, we already know which manufacturers will be working with AMD as official board partners. MSI has been dropped but there will still be models available from the likes of Acer, ASUS, Sapphire, XFX, ASRock, and PowerColor.
GPU | Price (MSRP at launch) |
---|---|
RX 9070 XT | $479 (rumored) |
RTX 5070 | $549 |
RTX 5070 Ti | $749 |
RX 7800 XT | $499 |
RX 7700 XT | $449 |
RTX 4070 Super | $599 |
RTX 4070 Ti Super | $799 |
All we can really know for certain about the new RX 9070 series is that we’re getting 16GB of VRAM – this is thanks to a recent Black Ops 6 benchmark using the non-XT version. As for the price, this new rumor is a promising sign and would continue the trend of AMD undercutting Nvidia and offering excellent value for money.
