It is no secret that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D was highly anticipated, and its release back in November delivered everything the community hoped for – quickly selling out. We gave it a test drive for our 9800X3D review and it earned a 5/5 rating due to its exceptional performance, particularly for gaming. That being said, unsurprisingly, it remains in high demand, and just short of two months after its release, it has outsold the entire Ryzen 9000 lineup according to one retailer’s sales numbers.

How many units has the Ryzen 7 9800X3D sold?
German retailer Mindfactory keeps track of (and openly displays) sales numbers, which gives us a look at the total number of 9800X3D units sold. Over 8,650 Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs have been sold since its release on 7th November; however, it still has a long way to go before reaching its predecessors, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which has sold over 78,440 units at the time of writing.
CPU | Units sold (Mindfactory) |
---|---|
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D | 8,650+ |
Ryzen 9000 series total (excluding 9800X3D) | ~5,090 |
AMD Ryzen 7 9700X | 2,560+ |
AMD Ryzen 7 9600X | 920+ |
AMD Ryzen 7 9900X | 820+ |
AMD Ryzen 7 9950X | 790+ |
In comparison, Team Blue’s 15th-generation heavy hitter, the Core Ultra 9 285K, has only sold over 70 units, which puts Intel severely on the back foot, so it’s a good thing the Intel Arc B580 was a success. On top of that, in the US, the Ryzen 7 5700X3D was the most sold processor in December 2024 on Amazon US and AM5 motherboard sales are on top.
So, it goes to show just how popular X3D CPUs are in the DIY gaming PC market. Judging by the popularity, performance, and demand of the 9800X3D, we’re expecting that this number will only go up with time. However, you might still need to keep an eye on our 9800X3D stock tracker if you want to find one.
