Apple is preparing for another major hardware reveal before the end of October, and it comes not long after it hosted its “Welcome Home” event to introduce new smart home tech. The company has sent invitations to journalists and creators for a special “Pro and Tell” event on October 28 at 10 AM PT in Los Angeles, with several new Macs and an upgraded iPad mini expected to make an appearance.
The tech giant hasn’t officially confirmed which products will be shown at the event. However, the “Pro and Tell” name strongly points toward new professional hardware, and recent reports suggest the MacBook Pro could receive one of its biggest changes in years. Apple marketing chief Greg Joswiak has also teased the event, saying he “can’t wait to pro and tell” next week.
What to expect from the Pro and Tell event
The biggest rumored announcement is a new touchscreen MacBook Pro, sometimes referred to as the MacBook Pro Touch, though an official name is pending. Apple has stayed away from touchscreens on Macs for years, but that could finally change with new 14-inch and 16-inch models. These laptops are expected to feature OLED displays instead of the Liquid Retina XDR panels found on current MacBook Pro models.

The move to OLED could provide better blacks and contrast while also introducing touch controls directly on the display. These models could also reportedly receive a slimmer design and a new camera area similar to Dynamic Island on the iPhone. However, exactly how Apple plans to adapt macOS for touchscreen controls remains unclear.
Interestingly, the touchscreen models aren’t necessarily expected to introduce Apple’s next chip generation. They could instead use the M5 Pro and M5 Max, which Apple introduced earlier this year. Meanwhile, a separate 14-inch MacBook Pro is rumored to retain a more familiar design while moving to the newer M6 chip.
Aside from that, an updated iMac is also reportedly on the way, potentially bringing the M6 chip to Apple’s all-in-one desktop. The current design has been around for several generations, although it remains unclear whether the upcoming model will receive major external changes alongside the processor upgrade.
Another device to watch is the iPad mini. Apple is reportedly preparing a significant display upgrade for the smaller tablet, with an OLED panel expected to replace its current screen. However, the upgrade could come with a substantial price increase, with one report suggesting the new iPad mini could start at $799.
