Display long-term demand forecast tracker from Omdia describes how the demand for OLED displays in mobile devices is expected to increase over the coming years and suggests how this might be reflected in future launches of leading brands. One such brand is Apple, with Omdia claiming it is “highly likely” that Apple will introduce an OLED MacBook Pro as soon as 2026!
Could we be seeing a new OLED Macbook Pro as soon as 2026?
The market research firm Omdia believes that the demand for OLED displays in mobile devices is expected to increase by 37% from 2023 to 2031. With Apple just releasing the OLED iPad Pro, the upcoming launch of OLED Surface Pro from Microsoft, and the vast number of impressive OLED monitors now on the market, it’s easy to see why Apple may want to subject the MacBook Pro to the same treatment.

“Apple is highly likely to incorporate OLED into its MacBook Pro models as early as 2026. This move could spark a significant surge in OLED demand within the notebook market, potentially reaching over 60 million units by 2031.”
Ricky Park – Senior Principal Analyst at Omdia
The apparent increase in OLED devices over the past few years, and in years to come, can be explained by the overall increase in clarity and quality that they provide. OLED panels offer precise color reproduction and deeper blacks due to each pixel being controlled individually. On top of that, OLED displays can also create, faster response times, greater design flexibility, and superior contrast. Making them a popular feature in modern device designs.
The demand for OLED tablets in 2025 is expected to triple due to the recent release of the OLED iPad Pro. It’s also expected that it won’t be long before we see OLED technology incorporated into the rest of the tablet lineup, including the iPad mini and iPad Air. Apple seems to be leading the way in terms of OLED mobile device introduction, and Omdia predicts that by 2029 OLED tablet demand is expected to exceed 30 million units.
Of course, this is all speculation and nothing has been officially confirmed by Apple. However, with predictions like this, Apple would be missing a trick if they don’t decide to follow through with an OLED MacBook Pro plan.
