Microsoft is giving Apple’s OLED iPad Pro a run for its money with the upcoming release of the new Surface Pro. The new Surface Pro is set to be released on June 18th and is fast becoming quite the anticipated product due to its new OLED screen. Apple’s OLED iPad Pro has just recently gone on sale, and with its apparent success and advanced display, we can see why Microsoft has decided to release something similar. If you’d like to hear more about how the products compare, we’ve covered everything you need to know about their launches, here.
Microsoft’s new OLED Surface Pro
Microsoft has announced that the launch of the new Surface Pro will not only feature all the benefits that come with the features of Copilot+ PC, but the product will also incorporate an OLED display. This will be the first PC in Microsoft’s lineup to be released with an OLED screen, making it a significant moment in the company’s product development.
The benefits of an OLED display will mainly focus on color contrast, providing room for the product to produce perfect blacks and create an overall crisp finish. On top of that, its OLED display will improve response time, contrast ratio, provide a sleek look for customers, and, according to Microsoft, will be able to support HDR output.
Microsoft has always stuck to traditional backlighting, and although the LCDs on previous Surface Pros were impressive, they were limited in the color contrast area and couldn’t demonstrate the deep blacks that can be observed with an OLED display. Using an OLED display with per-pixel control on the Surface Pro will allow customers to enjoy videos and photos with more definition and accuracy than ever.
An apparent difference, that may set the Microsoft Surface Pro and iPad Pro apart, is Apple’s use of a unique tandem OLED structure. This structure allows for a peak SDR brightness of 1,000 nits and an HDR brightness reaching 1,600 nits. Microsoft didn’t mention any peak brightness figures in its launch, therefore it will be something to consider later down the line when we have more information.
The product is currently available for pre-order from the Microsoft website, and we should expect to see it ship towards the end of June. The Surface Pro will be retailing between $999.99 and $1,499.99, depending on which Snapdragon X chip you choose.
What other features does the Surface Pro have?
On top of its impressive OLED display, the Surface Pro will offer a range of features that make it all the more enticing to users. It will be the first Microsoft product to ship with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon X chip. It will be available with both Snapdragon X Plus and Snapdragon X Elite chips, making it poised to deliver an unbeatable performance. Additionally, the Surface Pro will feature 2x USB-C ports, and 1x surface connection.
