Assassin’s Creed Shadows was released just a few days ago, and like many new games, it hasn't been a smooth start for everyone. Players started reporting different problems shortly after its release. Some of them complained about constant crashes and stuttering, while others faced sudden FPS drops. On top of that, there have also been complaints about issues with HDR, but it seems like a modder has stepped in with a swift solution.
What does the RenoDX mod offer?
A modder named MusaQH has uploaded a new mod called RenoDX on Nexus Mods. This mod is made especially for Assassin’s Creed Shadows and promises to fix the annoying HDR problems many players have faced. According to the mod's description, it fixes three big problems with the game's HDR settings.

First, the game's HDR was looking washed out. This was likely because of the way the game was handling brightness using something called a “minimum nits parameter.” RenoDX has replaced the game's method with its own version of ACES tonemapping, which makes the image look more natural.
Second, the brightness in the game was being adjusted before the tonemapping process. This caused colors and contrast to look strange. RenoDX has changed this by scaling the brightness after tonemapping, which helps the image look more balanced no matter how bright or dark the room is.
Third, the user interface (UI) looked odd in HDR. The colors and contrast didn't match how they looked in SDR (standard mode). This was because the developers used a different formula to handle the UI elements. RenoDX has fixed this so the UI looks more consistent and clean, just like in SDR mode.
How to install the mod?
For those interested, installing the mod is a pretty simple and straightforward task, and you can do it by following these steps:
- Install ReShade 6.4.1 or higher with addon support (no ReShade effects are needed).
- Download the RenoDX mod from Nexus Mods.
- Copy the file named renodx-asscreedshadows.addon64 into your Assassin's Creed Shadows installation folder (this is the same folder where ACShadows.exe or ACShadows_Plus.exe is located and where you installed ReShade's dxgi.dll).
- Launch the game.
- Press the HOME key on your keyboard to open the ReShade UI, where you’ll find RenoDX as a separate tab.
