Bad news AMD, more PC gamers would rather upgrade to Nvidia’s 50 Series or not at all, says poll

Nvidia’s upcoming GPU launch is all the rage right now, and while there are plenty of new options on the horizon, a recent poll we ran says most of our audience will be upgrading to a 50 Series card or not at all – sorry AMD.
Here at PCG, we love collecting reader opinions as it helps inform the content we write. The latest poll we ran, however, raised a few eyebrows around AMD’s upcoming launch.

Team Red has been a little quiet on the GPU announcements recently, despite the RX 9070 XT and 9070 both set to launch in the coming months. In fact, the only official announcement we’ve seen was from David McAfee via X, where his short post around the upcoming cards was met with some backlash due to its lack of proper promotion.
With that being said, we ran a poll earlier this month to see what people are most looking forward to in the GPU space. The poll asked readers whether or not they’d be upgrading their GPU in 2025. The options included the 50 Series Blackwell lineup, AMD’s 9000 Series cards, Intel’s new Arc Series, and “I’m not upgrading”. Well, it turns out that, at the time of writing, 46% of our readers decided that they probably wouldn’t upgrade this year, with 33% choosing Nvidia’s 50 series, leaving AMD with a mere 17%.
While all data collected by PCG is accurate, it’s worth noting that the sample size here is on the small side. That being said, it still highlights what a cross-section of our audience is planning on doing – and it’s not great news for AMD.
Demand is still huge for Nvidia 50 Series
Despite our results showing the single most popular choice amongst readers was to not upgrade at all, there is still huge demand for the upcoming 50 series – with one popular UK retailer suggesting online stock will sell out within 5 minutes.
The cards have been received incredibly well by the first round of reviewers and the new slimmer design of the FE is being met with praise across the board. So why are the majority of people still choosing not to upgrade?
Well, according to our poll, over 20% of our audience is claiming that the next-gen of graphics cards is simply too expensive – which is nothing new when you consider where the GPU market has gone in the last couple of years.
Additionally, AMD’s lack of proper promotion, and the fact Nvidia’s 50 series lineup is being praised so highly, is also a likely cause of the underwhelming numbers.
For me, the biggest eye-opener here is the fact that most people are not planning to upgrade at all. With all the hype around Nviida’s Blackwell cards, I’d have assumed that it’d be a landslide win for them – but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
