Baldur’s Gate 3 launched well over a year ago now and has been a massive hit ever since. So, it doesn’t come as a surprise to see it thrive as we quickly close in on the end of 2024. In fact, the game only continues to grow and Larian’s Director of Publishing, Michael Douse, has been sharing some statistics over on X that reveal just how well the game is doing, including on Steam Deck.
You also may remember Patch 7 for BG3 back in September, a milestone update that finally gave players official mod support and extra tools to play around with. That seems to be one reason why player numbers have been rising and Douse simply has to say: “mods are very good.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 average daily Steam Deck users up 61%
Compared to last year, the “average daily Steam Deck users are up 61%” says Douse. This kind of conclusion could be drawn considering BG3 is in second place (just behind Elden Ring) on the Steam Deck Top Played charts for the past year; it remains a permanent fixture in the top played while other games come and go. Either way, it’s nice to have some concrete statistics on the game’s growth.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is rated as Verified on the Steam Deck, which means Valve gives it a seal of approval as “fully functional” on the handheld device. In other words, it should work out of the box without any extra work on your part. This, combined with the ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews on Steam make it clear as to why BG3 is thriving on the Deck.
The modding community has been busy adding a ton of mods to BG3 since official support dropped. We’ve featured a few on the site including the Celestial Instruments mod or an upscaled texture pack. According to the stats, daily active users are up 20% compared to its launch year – great news if you’re a dev over at Larian.
Getting mods to work on the Steam Deck pre-patch 7 seems to have been a slog, at least according to Reddit posts at the time. Since then, patch 7 looks like it has streamlined the process thanks to the in-game mod manager.
