Black Ops 7 becomes the first game to support FSR Redstone, only available on AMD’s latest GPUs
Table of Contents
The last time we heard about FSR Redstone, AMD was reconfirming that it was still on track for 2025. And now, it’s suddenly available for the first time, as the company has essentially ‘shadow-dropped’ it into Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The latest entry to the COD franchise launched yesterday and has already been proven to favor AMD hardware, so it’s no surprise to see it become the first title to support new “Redstone” tech.
FSR Redstone is an evolution of AMD’s latest upscaling and frame generation tech, FSR 4. The new Redstone software stack focuses on four key features and more reliance on Machine Learning (ML). These are as follows: Neural Radiance Caching, ML Ray Regeneration, ML Super Resolution, and ML Frame Generation.
FSR Redstone is now available in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
Just like FSR 4, Redstone is exclusive to Radeon RX 9000 GPUs. This is AMD’s latest series of desktop graphics cards, currently headlined by the flagship Radeon RX 9070 XT. We mentioned the four new features in this Machine Learning-focused suite, but only one is available in Black Ops 7 so far.
ML Ray Regeneration has been added to the game – the other three are not currently supported. ML Ray Regeneration aids the game’s ray tracing implementation, delivering ‘noise-free’ visuals and improving image quality without the high-performance cost of traditional ray tracing techniques. In other words, it helps lower the workload of ray tracing, if you choose to use it.

AMD
- Uses a neural training model on noisy low sampled renders
- Predicts and filters grainy noise in real time
AMD’s Jack Huynh says, “This is just the beginning for FSR Redstone” – there’s more to come, though it’s not currently clear which title will be supported next. Either way, it’s nice to finally see Redstone being implemented, as AMD continues to play catch-up with Nvidia’s rival DLSS features. There’s no word yet on whether the remaining Redstone features will soon be added to BO7.
