AMD is launching a bunch of new hardware this quarter. On the graphics side of things, it has now been confirmed that the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT will be arriving in March following a delay. AMD said this “little extra time” is because it wants to optimize the software stack and “enable more FSR 4 titles” – assumedly in time for launch.

With a release window now confirmed, we turn our attention to the issue of price. AMD’s biggest rival, Nvidia, wasn’t shy about revealing the MSRP for its four new models, from the RTX 5090 down to the RTX 5070. Unfortunately, Team Red has yet to reveal how much these new 9070 series cards cost, but new information gives us a better idea of the original pricing strategy.

AMD may have planned to price the RX 9070 XT at $899, RX 9070 at $749

Last week, a 9070 series pricing rumor suggested that the two new cards will be priced on either side of the RTX 5070 MSRP ($549) – namely, $599 for the XT and $499 for the non-XT. This is perhaps close to what you may expect, though it would be nice to see them priced even lower.

And now, Gplay, a large Bulgarian retailer, has put out a video that discusses early pricing strategy. It also suggests that the cards were intended to go on sale in late January, though this is no longer the case as we’ve discussed. According to the video, the delay of these cards “has created uncertainty” [translated by Videocardz] and the 9070 XT was expected to cost around the same as (or more than) the 7900 XT while offering “only marginally better performance”.

According to the retailer, the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 were originally intended to sell for $899 and $749 respectively on January 23rd. It’s clear that these prices aren’t favorable versus its close competition – the 5070 Ti and 5070, which have $749 and $549 MSRPs respectively. People have been speculating that Nvidia’s price reveal is one reason behind AMD’s delay, though we can’t know that for sure. What we can say is that we hope to see the RX 9070 series offer competitive pricing this March.
